"What do I need to make on my remaining tests and assignments in order to get an A in this class, given the grades that I've already made so far?" Every semester, students crank up their calculators in pursuit of the answer to this elusive question. It's easy to make mistakes, though, especially if you have tests and assignments that are worth different percentages of the total grade. Well, now you can save your calculator for math class--this calculator will tell you exactly what you need to make in order to get the grade you want!

Step 1: Enter your scores

First of all, list the grades you have received so far. Enter the grades you have received into the left column; in the right column, list the percentage that each grade counts toward your final average. For example, if you made a 95 on your first test and it counts 20% of the final grade, you would type

95 20

in the first row. Do not type percent signs in the right column; this will confuse the program.

Of course, the numbers in the right column should not add to more than 100, since you cannot possibly have received more than 100% of your total grade.

There is room for you to type 20 grades and their corresponding weights.

An example is available if you need help.

Step 2: Enter the minimum final average needed for each grade

In the red table, enter the different letter grades offered in the course (such as A, B, C, D) and the minimum final average required to receive each grade. Enter the letter grades in the left column and the corresponding required averages in the right column. For example, if you entered

A 90
B 80
C 70
D 60

this would mean that your final average must be at least 90 in order to receive an A; 80 in order to receive a B; 70 in order to receive a C; and 60 in order to receive a D.

Enough space is provided for you to enter eleven different letter grades, which should provide ample room for schools with plus-minus grading systems.

Step 3: You're ready to calculate what you need!
